Antonin Anzil was born in 1988 in Blois and lives and works in Paris. He graduated from the École Européenne Supérieure de l’Image in Poitiers in 2010 and from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in 2012. He then worked at the creation studio of Maison Francis Kurkdjian until 2017.
Finesse and delicacy characterize his artistic practice. Paper as a medium may seem incompatible with engraving or sculpture, and yet, meticulously, the artist brings relief into being, makes forms and patterns emerge, multiplies dots, and builds an entire universe out of paper. On the bright white surface, inner landscapes develop — invented maps and secret patterns.
Each viewer is invited to construct their own images, to find reference points between the lines. His works are both poetic and tangible, inviting the desire to gently touch their delicate lace-like structures. Some pieces appear influenced by decorative arts and close to textile traditions, recalling patterns of tapestries or hangings. Others evoke calm landscapes or aerial views of territories — inviting the viewer simply to drift into imagination and travel through them.
