Biography

"Haunted by the biggest questions of existence — despair, death, uncertainty — I turned to the reliability of science, finding comfort in the undeniable: the universe in which we all live. This spiritual quest for scientific truth led me to renew my visual language, where aesthetics become a starting point for initiating conversations about the environment and fragile ecosystems. Inspired by the major challenges facing the planet, such as deforestation and climate change, I incorporate natural elements into my practice: earth, water, air and fire are essential."

David Servan-Schreiber is a contemporary French artist whose work draws its strength from a keen awareness of the environmental and spiritual issues of our time. Self-taught, he began his creative journey on the streets of France, collaborating with other graffiti artists. Through public expression, calligraphy and meaningful wordplay, he refined his taste for a form of art that is both committed and accessible.

However, decisive circumstances in his life led him to leave the streets and turn to painting on canvas in 2012. His time at an auction house served as his training ground: it was there that he ‘trained his eye’, developed his visual culture and refined his artistic instinct. His career seems to follow the thread of chance, but also that of a deep inner listening.

Through his three series, Planets, Time and Microcosm David Servan-Schreiber embodies a generation of artists for whom creation cannot be separated from consciousness.
