Mathilde Wittock is a Belgian artist, bio/eco-conscious designer and materials researcher who embodies a new generation of creators committed to sustainable innovation. Based in Brussels, she explores the fertile intersections between design, biotechnology and environmental awareness. Her work is influenced by a critical understanding of the intersection between design & sustainability.
Mathilde is particularly interested in the sensory qualities of materials & explores how design can appeal to all senses: visual, tactile, auditory & olfactory.

She believes that the emotional impat of an object is considerably increased
when it appeals to our sensory experiences, promoting a deeper connection between people & the objects they interact with.

From her studio in Brussels, Mathilde Wittock collaborates with academic institutions on research related to the acoustic properties of materials. This aspect of her work deepens her reflection on how objects interact with their sound environment, and how sound can become a component of design, just like light or texture.

These balls, symbols of performance and play, are repurposed from their original use to become the raw material for furniture: stools, benches, wall panels. They are cut, dyed and reassembled by hand using a patented assembly system, and combined with local wood species such as beech from the Sonian Forest. This project perfectly exemplifies Wittock's philosophy: anchoring sustainability in a strong, playful, yet meaningful aesthetic.
